The LaGrange Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Section consists of dedicated detectives and a polygraph examiner. The section is headed by a lieutenant and two sergeants. Within the section, there are detectives assigned to the Special Victims Unit who primarily investigate crimes against children, the Domestic Violence Unit, who conduct follow up investigations on all reported domestic violence incidents, and General Crimes Unit, who investigate property crimes and crimes against persons. There are two detectives within the section that are assigned to the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, who work in conjunction with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Justice to identify and prosecute child predators on the web. All of the detectives assigned to the section are responsible for processing crime scenes, interviewing witnesses, victims, and suspects; tracking and recovering stolen property; and compiling thorough investigative files for prosecution of offenders within the various courts of Troup County.
